Valentines Day Dates at Frida’s

On my last day, also Valentine’s Day, I went to the Frida Kahlo museum. Not knowing a reservation was required to get in, I was unable to attend the museum. The museum was full for the day, so there’s no way to see its wonderful exhibits on this trip. Fortunately, a group of three ladies were inquiring about the Valentine’s Day special event the museum was having for couples in the evening. There they were, three young ladies, looking to attend the museums in the evening, and I was a single old man, but still the fourth missing link needed to make two couples. So we quickly got our phones out and make a date. Jen would buy one ticket. I would buy the other. Together the four of us were going to see the Frida Kahlo museum no matter what it took.

As you know, from reading this blog, I’ve been traveling alone.  The main point of this Mexico trip was to exercise my independence.  To see if I felt comfortable traveling alone again after so many years of traveling with my wife.  So now you ask, did I accomplish what I set out for?   The answer is, yes absolutely.  I discovered that even though I’m traveling alone, here in Mexico, I can make friends, no matter where I am. As a special treat, here I am a 67-year-old man spending the evening with three lovely ladies. This is God’s gift to reaffirm the success of my mission.

Here in Mexico, Valentine’s Day is known as the day of love and friendship. It is nice to make new friends on this special day.  We all had a great time, viewing the museum at a leisurely pace.  We were able to see all the exhibits without the hustle and bustle of crowds craning their necks to soak in the smallest detail of Frita’s work and life.  It was especially pleasing to listen to one of the staff explain the history of the house, and how love was exhibited in the works, the gardens, and all the Mementos.  As he explained, this house was built on and is filled with love. How appropriate to attend the special event on Valentine’s Day

.

It was extra special to spend my first Valentine’s Day with wonderful people. An event I will never forget.  Tennessee would be pleased.
